After 4 years I finally found out why the hotspot was so slow. Under Settings -> Celluar -> Celluar Data Options -> Data Roaming When turned off, and you connect to the iPhone hotspot, the speed is throttled by the iPhone to prevent data over-usag
It's a bit pricey if you ask me! But it is what it is. I for one can always hop on available wifi when I'm out and about with my notebook ( a huge number of business's have it available for free) and really don't need to pay a small fortune for the hot spot option on my iphone.
