As others have said, the HDHomeRun provides the cable (TV) signal to you're entire network via the 3 tuners and an ethernet cable directly to you're router. I will explain to you my experience as I have an HDHomeRun Prime with Windows Media Center on my HTPC.

All except the home server are running Win 7 32bit. All have been using the Prime with WMC with few problems; just the occasional "no tuner available" glitch that requires a re-start of WMC. A post in the SiliconDust forums (that's the company that makes HDHomeRun) specifically says that the update affected DVR functionality. Also, "We have also noticed that this update messes with permission settings with the HDHomeRun app. Synology DS Video works directly with HDHomeRun to record tv but it has been stated on Synology forums for years that there is no 3'rd party EPG available for DS Video. What I do not know is if OTA EPG is suppoted with an antenna-based HDHomeRun device but for the Prime devices there's no EPG.
Jul 21, 2015 · HDHomerun PRIME View has been a staple TV tuner on our network and multiple PCs over the last couple years. Connected directly to our router worked great to share tuner. But with this new Windows 10 PC, NO VIDEO can be achieved on either new or older laptop machine!
Nick Kelsey said they will be releasing recorded DRM playback in their HDHomeRun DVR in conjunction with the Prime 6 release. If the Prime 6 does get released a lot of Prime 3 users will want to upgrade, and with a brand new Prime 6 available for $200 the used Prime 3 prices will have to drop.

Jul 07, 2019 · Looking to cut the cord to save money on a monthly basis? Let's take a look into the combination of Synology, Plex, and HDHomeRun to see how they work together to provide one-stop entertainment. I am thinking of biting the bullet, and switching to cable TV with charter and installing an hdhomerun prime. Just basic cable no hbo or anything. Will I have any issues with that setup? The hdhomerun dual is great with the tvheadend install from this forum, but the whole encrypted situation scares me when using a cablecard.
